Change a life

Can you imagine sleeping on a park bench, in your car, or under an overpass? That’s the reality 30% of kids in Arizona face every night. Kids that are sleeping in transient places and not knowing where their next “home” will be. Kids like Jeff.

This was his reality before New Pathways. From homeless shelters, to couches, to park benches Jeff was just one of our youth experiencing homelessness. Today, with the guidance of his mentor, he has lived in his own home for over a year. The longest he has lived in a stable environment in over 10 years.

Inspire a Youth to reach their full potential

Want to provide a stable relationship for a youth like Jeff? Be a supporting force in their life by becoming a mentor. Our shelter recruitment is in full swing and we are looking to grow our mentor base for our kids age 9-12 coming from our partnerships with homeless shelters around the valley. We need 30 mentors by August 30th.

Will you be the next mentor for a youth like Jeff? Do you know someone who would be an amazing mentor? Come to a mentor intro session to find out how you could transform a youth’s life.

Summer just started but we are already thinking about back to school! August will come sooner than we think and we want our kids to be prepared for school. For them to be present and learn in the classroom, they need essential items. That is where you come in! Our annual backpack drive is here and we need 150 backpacks by July 14th with the following items!!

  • backpacks
  • paper (notebooks and loose sleeve notebook paper)
  • 3 ring binder- 1 or 1/2 inch only
  • mechanical pencils
  • folders

Don’t have time to go out and buy items? That’s ok! A donation of $25 will fund one backpack filled with pencils, paper, notebooks, and binders for our kids to be prepared come August!

What inspired you to make an impact at New Pathways for Youth?

From the first time I met Christy and learned the mission of the organization I was hooked. It is so tangible and the outcomes are truly inspiring.

How have you gotten involved?

I have tried to be a resource for New Pathways for things such as, the campus redevelopment, board development, and fundraising. My son’s girlfriend is a mentor. Through this I have seen the growth and transformation of both the mentee and the mentor. It is very inspiring to see their relationship grow.

Why is it important for you to invest in our community?

It is very important for me to invest my time, talent, and treasure in our community. I have been given so many opportunities and this community has been so good to me. Everyone deserves the same chance I have had. New Pathways delivers those chances to these kids.

What advice do you have for those on the sidelines, wondering how or if they should get involved?

My advice for those on the sidelines is to get on the field in some way, no matter how big or how small.
You will grow as a person and at the same time improve the life of kids that need a mentor to give them a shot at the kind of life we all aspire to have.

Anyone can make an impact here at New Pathways. Our youth need the support of people like you!! Join John and others like him, you could change a life today!
